Slider Revolution

What is Slider Revolution?

Slider Revolution is an extremely powerful WordPress plugin that allows editors to create complex image sliders on their website. Most often you will see Slider Revolution being used at the top of a website’s homepage however it can be used anywhere within your WordPress website.

Terminology

Slides are individual slides that make up a module.

Layers are components that are placed and arranged within a slide. A layer could contain text, buttons, images, etc. A slide can be made up of multiple layers.

Modules (sometimes referred to as “Sliders”) are a collection of slides and are what you eventually place within a page on your website.

Beginner Advice

Slider Revolution is an extremely powerful WordPress plugin which, while nice at times, comes at the price of some complexity. A recommended guideline: Leave everything at its default and only venture into deeper settings when needed.

The 6 Editor Basics

Example of the Slider Revolution Editor

  1. “Slides” is where you’ll find a list of all the slides within the module. By hovering over it, the list will appear as well as the options to add a new layer, delete existing layers, etc.
    • Tip: Feel free to click the “eye” icon to hide a slide (instead of deleting it) if you think you might ever want to use the slide again at a later point.

  2. “Add Layer” is where you’ll be able to add new layers (text, buttons, etc.) to the slide you’re currently on. After adding a layer, you can drag-and-drop it wherever you’d like. If you’re wanting to add a background image for the whole slide to display, refer to #3 below.

  3. “Slide Options” is where you’ll find the setting to change the background image of the slide and how you’d like it to stretch to fit the screen.

  4. “Layer Options” is where you’ll find all the options for the layer you currently have selected. The options available here will depend on what layer type you are editing. By far, the most common layer types used are: Text, Image, and Button.

  5. “Preview” allows you to get a [rough] glimpse as to what the module will look like once saved.
    • Tip: Previewing can save you a bunch of time and headaches so use this tool as often as you can until you’re sure it’s ready to be officially saved.

  6. “Save” allows you to officially update the module. Once saved, your changes should be in place on the website.

Other Slider Revolution Editor Tools

There are, of course, plenty of other tools and features within Slider Revolution. Most often you’ll just be wanting to make small modifications to an existing module (text edits, adding a new slide, removing a slide, etc.) but if you want to take a deeper dive, feel free to create a new module and use that as a testing area.
